The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has instructed its National Working Committee (NWC) to initiate legal proceedings aimed at reclaiming the seats of its members in the National and State Assemblies who have defected to other political parties.

This directive was contained in a communiqué issued after the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

According to the PDP, the move is necessary to safeguard the electoral mandates freely given to the party by Nigerians.

The communiqué cited Sections 68 (1)(g) and 109 (1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), stating that lawmakers who defect without a division or merger within their party automatically forfeit their seats.
