Issues on the Agenda

Party officials confirmed that the NEC reviewed the report of the National Zoning Committee and preparations for the upcoming convention. Insiders told Punch the meeting marked a major step in the PDP’s plan for the 2027 general elections.

They stressed that the gathering demonstrates the party’s renewed resolve to strengthen its role as the main opposition and present Nigerians with a clear alternative.

Disciplinary Matters

The NEC also examined cases involving members accused of anti-party activities during the 2023 elections. Those affected include Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom.

The disciplinary committee, chaired by Tom Ikimi, had earlier submitted its report to the National Working Committee (NWC). The document recommended sanctions against members found guilty of working against PDP interests in the last election.

Plans for National Convention

Delegates also discussed the national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. During the event, the party will elect new national officers to strengthen its leadership.

Political observers believe the decisions from the NEC will influence the PDP’s unity and readiness ahead of the 2027 polls.
