The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially withdrawn its backing for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to PenTalk, the National Publicity Secretary of the Wike-led faction, Jungudo Mohammed, disclosed this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.

Mohammed emphasized that the faction will not support Tinubu and that the PDP intends to present its own presidential candidate. He stated:

“We are not supporting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general election. We will do everything to field our own candidate.

“I appeal to Nigerians to give us time before our primaries. All rumours suggesting we are backing the APC or acting as an appendage of the APC will be proven false.

“These rumours and propaganda are aimed at discrediting either the PDP or Honorable Minister Nyesom Wike. Time will clarify the truth.”

Mohammed’s statement appears to contradict previous claims that Wike’s faction would support Tinubu in the upcoming election.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde said Wike plans to hold the PDP in support of Tinubu. Makinde made this remark during a meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi on Sunday.

He accused Wike of causing divisions within the PDP and claimed that members aligned with Wike’s faction have agreed to back Tinubu. Makinde said:

“I was in a meeting with Wike and Mr. President, and he promised to hold the PDP for Mr. President towards 2027. So anyone aligned with Wike and his group has agreed to support President Tinubu for the 2027 election.”
