Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has denied reports claiming it has officially joined any political coalition.
In a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP described the reports as false and misleading, adding that they emerged from social media speculations.
“For clarity, the PDP has not taken any official position on joining a coalition,” the party said.
Ologunagba explained that the party is currently focused on building internal unity and preparing for its upcoming National Convention.
According to him, the PDP is working towards consolidating its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He noted that while the PDP has not entered any coalition, it remains open to working with like-minded Nigerians to rescue the country from what it described as the “insensitive APC government.”
The PDP, which ruled Nigeria from 1999 to 2015, is aiming for a strong comeback after several electoral defeats, pledging to restore its winning ways ahead of 2027.
