Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State say rising hunger, business decline, and widespread power outages will drive voters to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
They spoke in Egbeda Local Government Area during the reception of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members into a new coalition under the ADC. The Egbeda ADC Chairman, Hon. Funso Owoade, formally welcomed the defectors at Jinanrere, Alakia, Ibadan, as supporters celebrated.
ADC governorship aspirant, Chief Niyi Aborisade, said the APC had lost public trust. He linked this to worsening living conditions and unreliable electricity.
The Oyo State ADC Chairman, Alhaji Yinka Olona, also welcomed the new members. He described the PDP as weak and unable to provide credible leadership in the state.
Barrister Bimpe Adelowo, the ADC Publicity Secretary, called the PDP a party on oxygen and said the oxygen was gone. Community groups, including representatives of the Hausa community and Ohaneze Ndigbo, expressed confidence in the ADC as a platform for inclusive governance.
Speaking for the defectors, Oloye Tajudeen Kareem said they left the PDP due to marginalisation and unmet expectations. Mr. Ogunwale Leke added that years of commitment to the PDP brought no recognition.
Both Aborisade and Olona presented the ADC as a transparent alternative. They said the party allows members to freely choose leaders and candidates without imposition.
