Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has declared support for a Southern presidency in 2027, distancing himself from the coalition reportedly backing ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking on Thursday in Makurdi, Ortom insisted the South should complete its eight-year term before power returns to the North.
“I still believe in Southern presidency. Even if my party, PDP, fields a candidate in 2027, it must be from the South. I won’t support any Northern candidate,” Ortom said.
The PDP chieftain also dismissed the idea of joining Atiku’s coalition, stating: “I remain a loyal PDP member and board member. I don’t believe in coalition, but if strategic partnerships arise, you will see me there.”
Atiku is rumoured to be eyeing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket after hinting at another presidential bid recently.
