The Warri Kingdom has begun a seven-day celebration to mark the fourth coronation anniversary of His Majesty, Ògíamè Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.
The program opened with a thanksgiving service at the Palace Church in Aghofen. Sons and daughters of the Iwere Nation gathered for worship, prayers, and praise songs. They expressed gratitude for four years of prosperous leadership under the monarch.
The service combined worship and collective prayers. Attendees asked for continued wisdom, peace, and prosperity in the Warri Kingdom. Moreover, the event reflected the unity and cultural pride of the Itsekiri people under their ruler.
Cultural and Educational Programs
Throughout the week, several activities will hold. These include educational lectures, traditional homage ceremonies, and cultural exhibitions. Each program aims to honour the Olu’s leadership while promoting Itsekiri heritage.
On Tuesday, August 20, the celebration will feature a hospital commissioning, an Itsekiri language competition, and novelty football matches. In addition, Nigeria’s football legends are expected to participate, adding sporting excitement to the cultural events.
Preserving Itsekiri Heritage
The anniversary demonstrates the deep respect the Itsekiri people hold for their monarch. It also shows their strong commitment to cultural preservation while celebrating milestones in Ògíamè Atuwatse III’s reign.
