Former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, has denied making a viral comment attributed to him on social media, which accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being desperate to hijack power at all costs.
In a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha described the alleged remark as the handiwork of his political detractors bent on tarnishing his image and sowing division within the ruling party.
According to the statement, the fabricated quote claimed: “APC is no longer a political party but a party desperate to hijack power at all costs. I am at the corner looking at them, Senator Rochas Okorocha.”
Reacting, the former senator representing Imo West said he never made such a comment and remains a loyal founding member of the APC. He emphasized his long-standing commitment to the party’s ideals, recalling his role as the only sitting South-East governor who joined the APC merger in 2013, even at the risk of his political career.
“Those behind this falsehood are obviously unsettled by Okorocha’s enduring political relevance. They cannot say where or when he made such a statement, whether in a press conference, interview, or official release,” the statement noted.
Okorocha also questioned the logic behind the fake quote, pointing out that the APC has been in power since 2015, making the accusation of “hijacking power” baseless. He urged the public to disregard the viral post and any similar claims circulating in the future.
The statement further recalled his tenure as the pioneer chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, describing his political style as transparent and direct.
“Okorocha does not engage in politics of ambiguity. If he has something to say, he says it clearly and openly. This smear campaign is not only desperate but poorly executed,” the aide added.
Okorocha reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, stressing that no amount of blackmail would distort his legacy or commitment to the party.
