Delta State Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, has declared that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori must complete two terms in office, following the state’s long-standing tradition of rotational governance.

Speaking on Saturday at the inauguration of the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency Forum at Oharisi Primary School, Ughelli, Onyeme stressed that the zoning arrangement has ensured political stability and inclusivity in Delta State since 1999.

According to Onyeme, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has adhered to this zoning system, allowing each senatorial district to produce a governor who serves for two terms. He insisted that the arrangement would not change under Oborevwori’s administration.

“Delta is a very peaceful state, and since 1999, we were among the first to embrace governorship rotation. It has worked well for us, and all previous governors completed eight years in office. This time around will not be different because Governor Oborevwori is working hard, and Deltans can see the progress,” he said.

He praised the governor’s efforts in infrastructure development, citing partnerships with Julius Berger and other reputable construction companies as proof of Oborevwori’s commitment to transforming the state.

“Governor Oborevwori is committed to developing Delta State, and under his leadership, more projects will be executed across the state. His achievements speak for themselves, and the people can see the progress firsthand,” Onyeme added.

PDP Confident of Victory in 2027

Echoing Onyeme’s sentiments, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, assured supporters that PDP would maintain dominance in the state. He expressed confidence that Governor Oborevwori would secure a second term in 2027, emphasizing the party’s stronghold in the region.

“What we have done today is to demonstrate that this Federal Constituency is united in supporting Governor Oborevwori for a second term in 2027. The PDP will win all eight local government areas in Delta Central without a doubt,” Guwor stated.

The event also witnessed the formal inauguration of key officials of the forum, including:

Olorogun John Oguma – Chairman

Chief Eddie Onosorhue – Deputy Chairman

Festus Agas – Secretary

George Oyefia – Treasurer

Henry Sakpra – Financial Secretary

Chief Vivian Ogheneovo – Woman Leader

Comrade Ejiro Hope – Youth Leader

Olorogun Festus Ahon – Publicity Secretary

Oborevwori’s Leadership and Delta’s Political Future

With the PDP’s firm backing, Onyeme and Guwor’s statements indicate a strong push to ensure continuity in governance. Observers believe that Oborevwori’s infrastructural projects and grassroots engagement could solidify his chances for re-election.

As Delta State moves closer to the 2027 elections, the governor’s ability to maintain widespread support and fulfill his developmental promises will determine his political future.
