The Labour Party (LP) has screened and confirmed two governorship aspirants, Sir John Nwosu and Chief George Muoghalu, ahead of its primaries set for April 5, 2025. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, disclosed this in a statement.
Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ozodinobi, chaired the screening committee and praised both aspirants for their dedication. He assured them of a fair selection process and emphasized the party’s commitment to transparency.
“We will follow laid-down rules and ensure the highest level of transparency. Our goal is unity, helping us approach the November governorship election with strength and purpose,” Ozodinobi stated.
Sir John Nwosu, an IT expert and global entrepreneur, previously worked as a director in the 2023 ObiDatti Presidential Campaign Council. Chief Muoghalu, a seasoned politician and business executive, has held key roles, including National Secretary of the defunct ANPP, National Auditor of the APC, and Managing Director of NIWA.
Expressing his excitement, Nwosu said, “I feel deeply gratified to have been screened and confirmed for the Labour Party primaries.” The screening committee has submitted its results to the party’s leadership.
Edeoga’s Political Homecoming: Former LP Candidate Rejoins PDP
Meanwhile, in Enugu State, the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, has officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His return follows months of speculation, especially after his closed-door meeting with Enugu PDP leadership on January 31.
Edeoga, along with his supporters, arrived at the PDP state office, where Chairman Dr. Martins Chukwunweike and other party stakeholders welcomed him. He expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah and party leaders for facilitating his smooth reintegration.
“I appreciate Governor Mbah’s leadership and political inclusivity. This move signals a new era of unity in Enugu politics, where grudges no longer dictate political decisions. I rededicate myself to ensuring PDP remains a formidable force in Enugu State,” Edeoga declared.
Dr. Chukwunweike described Edeoga’s return as a strategic boost for the party, emphasizing Governor Mbah’s vision of a unified PDP before the 2027 elections.
Isi-Uzo Council Chairman, Barr. Obiora Obeagu, hailed Edeoga’s decision as a milestone for the party and proof of Mbah’s transformative leadership. “From infrastructure projects to healthcare improvements, the governor has shown a strong commitment to development. This dedication has inspired many, including Edeoga, to rally behind him,” he noted.
With Edeoga’s return, political analysts predict a stronger PDP in Enugu, poised for electoral dominance in future contests.
