The Commandant of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly conduct of the local government council elections in Abuja.
Odumosu, who undertook a tour of designated polling units within and outside the Abuja city centre, described the elections as “a successful litmus test” for other elections slated for 2027.
The Commandant alongside his personnel visited polling units at Garki Central Business District, Garki Shopping Mall, Durumi 1& 2, Lokogoma 1 & 2, Kabusa and Karu 1 and Nyanya, among others within and outside the city.
He also expressed delight over the conduct of security agencies, the military, police, Immigration and Road Safety personnel for working in synergy to deliver peaceful and orderly polls in the FCT.
He said reports reaching him from other council areas did not indicate any form of violence or chaos, stating that the security agencies proved they are equal to the task.
Speaking with journalists after the tour, Odumosu warned against any attempt to disrupt the peace as results from the Council elections begin to trickle in.
He praised FCT voters for conducting themselves in an orderly manner, stating also that the peaceful atmosphere witnessed so far resulted from proactive planning and coordination among security agencies.
While acknowledging that no electoral process is 100% perfect, he emphasised that the current exercise provides a critical opportunity for the security community to review findings and make necessary improvements ahead of future national transitions.
Odumosu further acknowledged ongoing patrols and the visible presence of security forces around the city as a clear signal to potential troublemakers, saying that he did not envisage any trouble as the elections were peaceful.
“The security apparatus remains fully prepared for any eventuality as the election moves into its final phase,” he said.
