The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has firmly distanced itself from its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, declaring that he has no access to the party’s platform to contest in the 2027 elections.
NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, stating that both Kwankwaso and his ally, Buba Galadima, remain expelled from the party over alleged anti-party activities.
This comes after Galadima recently claimed that Kwankwaso had no plans to leave the NNPP and would contest the 2027 presidential election under its banner. He dismissed rumours of Kwankwaso defecting to the APC, urging Nigerians to support his ambition.
However, Major dismissed Galadima’s comments, reiterating that the duo can no longer speak for or use the NNPP for any political ambition.
“The NNPP expelled Kwankwaso and Galadima long ago. They no longer have any stake in the party. Our Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwankwasiyya Movement ended after the 2023 elections,” he stated.
Major accused Kwankwaso of creating internal crises and attempting to hijack the party’s leadership by changing its logo to that of Kwankwasiyya. He revealed that court interventions restored the original NNPP logo.
He further claimed that Kwankwaso is seeking another “free ticket” like he got in 2023, insisting it will not happen again.
“Kwankwaso can never join any political party where he won’t dominate. He does not have the pedigree to challenge President Tinubu in any election. His ambition is dead on arrival,” Major declared.
He warned Kwankwaso against dragging the NNPP into his political agenda, stressing that the party has moved on and will only choose its 2027 presidential candidate through due process.
“Kwankwaso betrayed our trust. Whoever will contest under NNPP in 2027 must emerge constitutionally. We advise him to float his own party for his ambitions. NNPP is done with controversies,” he concluded.
