The Nigerian film industry witnessed another landmark moment as the much-anticipated Nollywood action drama, Hakeem: Seeking Justice, premiered on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Filmhouse Cinemas, Lagos. Directed and produced by singer-filmmaker Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, the event drew an impressive lineup of industry stars and excited fans.

Star Power on the Red Carpet

The premiere attracted Bolanle Ninalowo, Deyemi Okanlawon, Zubby Michael, Skales, and Liquorose, alongside other notable actors. Their presence added glamour to the night, creating buzz ahead of the film’s nationwide cinema release on August 1, 2025.

A major highlight came when Ninalowo, Okanlawon, Skales, and Zubby Michael performed the official soundtrack live, thrilling the audience and earning a standing ovation.

A Bold Step for Nollywood’s Action Genre

Speaking at the premiere, JJC Skillz explained that Hakeem: Seeking Justice was his deliberate effort to expand Nollywood’s action film repertoire.

“We’ve mastered drama, epic, and many genres, but action and horror remain underexplored. This film delivers high-speed car chases, explosive stunts, and intense fight sequences, elements you’d expect from Hollywood but executed in Nollywood,” he said.

A Story of Grief, Betrayal, and Justice

The action-packed drama follows Deyemi Okanlawon as Hakeem, a man trapped in grief, betrayal, and a flawed justice system. The film also stars Chioma Chukwuka, Gabriel Afolayan, Regina Daniels, Ali Nuhu, and White Money, bringing together a powerhouse cast.

Produced by Afristar Media and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie blends explosive action with deep social themes, signaling a shift toward adrenaline-driven storytelling in Nigerian cinema.

Why This Premiere Matters

The successful launch of Hakeem: Seeking Justice demonstrates Nollywood’s growing ambition to produce large-scale, visually stunning action films. With its compelling storyline, star-studded cast, and Hollywood-style production, the film is poised to make a significant impact both locally and internationally.
