The 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Abdulhakeem Owoade, has urged President Bola Tinubu to lead Nigeria toward a new era marked by justice, equity, and inclusive progress. The monarch made this call during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, May 16.

Oba Owoade, accompanied by his wife, Abiwumi, and a delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State, assured the President of the full support of the traditional council in delivering good governance.

“Nigeria looks up to you not only for leadership but for restoration and a renewed vision rooted in fairness and inclusion,” the Alaafin stated. He emphasized the significance of traditional rulers in nation-building, describing the visit as a symbol of mutual respect and cooperation.

Alaafin Praises Tinubu’s Leadership and Reforms

Speaking as a cultural custodian and community leader, the Alaafin hailed Tinubu’s journey from political activism to national leadership, praising his courage, strategy, and dedication to unity.

He commended the administration’s economic reforms, infrastructure strides, social welfare initiatives, youth empowerment efforts, and agricultural investments.

“Transformation requires a synergy between ancient wisdom and modern governance. When both old and new institutions collaborate, progress is inevitable,” Oba Owoade said.

Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Governance

In his response, President Tinubu acknowledged the vital role of traditional institutions in national development and pledged continuous partnership.

“I celebrate your historic ascendancy to the revered throne. It is both divine and people-ordained. Your leadership, foresight, and humility are commendable,” Tinubu remarked.

Reflecting on the challenges that preceded their respective positions, Tinubu said they were part of divine preparation. He also praised the traditional council for the smooth succession process following the passing of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in April 2022.

“You have upheld the values and culture of your people, even from afar. Your return to lead is a beacon of hope for the Yoruba race,” the President said.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, education, healthcare, and cultural preservation, while lauding the contributions of Oyo sons like Ambassador Victor Adeleke and Colonel Nurudeen Yusuf in his administration.

“Our doors remain open to all stakeholders. Together, we must build a prosperous and united Nigeria,” Tinubu concluded.
