Newcastle United have announced plans to upgrade their current training ground at Darsley Park. At the same time, they continue the search for a new, state-of-the-art facility. The Public Investment Fund (PIF), which took over from former owner Mike Ashley, has already pumped millions into Benton.
The proposed expansion depends on planning permission. If approved, the project should wrap up by summer 2026. The club emphasized that these upgrades won’t replace their goal of building a new training centre.
Darsley Park Set for Summer 2026 Expansion
During PIF’s tenure, the site has already seen major improvements. A new hydrotherapy pool, plunge pool, and facility upgrades have brought investment to about £10 million.
The club’s latest proposal includes 1,350 square metres of new office and meeting space. Existing buildings will be restructured to add more treatment areas and staff rooms. The players’ lounge will also grow in size.
The club said the extension will replace temporary buildings. Parking will improve, with better access and designated spaces near the entrance. Solar panels will help power the site by reducing energy consumption.
Despite the changes, staff and visitor numbers will stay the same.
Plans for New State-of-the-Art Complex Still in Motion
Newcastle have earmarked £200 million for a future training complex. The project remains a top priority and aims to push the club into football’s elite. The budget is twice what Leicester City spent on their £100 million site in 2020.
Sources say the new facility draws inspiration from the Adidas headquarters in Germany. The club is still hunting for the perfect location.
PIF’s Investment Pushes Long-Term Ambition
The expansion at Darsley Park shows Newcastle’s short-term intent. But the bigger picture is even more ambitious. PIF’s backing signals a long-term strategy to elevate the club. Talks about a new stadium further show that commitment.
With the training site upgrade on the way, Newcastle is laying strong foundations for its future, both on and off the pitch.
