In professional boxing, talent alone is never enough. It takes discipline, resilience, and a champion’s mindset, qualities that Nigerian-British heavyweight Moses Itauma embodies. At just 20 years old, he is already an unbeaten titleholder, rapidly gaining attention for his explosive knockouts and remarkable composure inside the ring.

From Slovakia to England – A Journey of Resilience

Born on December 28, 2004, in Kežmarok, Slovakia, Itauma’s early life was far from easy. His Nigerian father and Slovakian mother faced racial discrimination; therefore, they relocated to Chatham, Kent, in 2008. That move not only ensured safety but also opened the door to a boxing career that would change his life forever.

Boxing Runs in the Family

The sport wasn’t a random choice for Itauma; instead, it was inspired by his older brother, Karol Itauma, a decorated amateur and now a professional light-heavyweight. Consequently, watching Karol’s discipline and success motivated Moses to begin training at nine years old. From that moment, he displayed exceptional speed, sharp instincts, and natural confidence.

A Decorated Amateur Career

Before stepping into the professional ranks, Itauma built an impressive amateur résumé. He won national and European titles, along with a world championship medal. As a result, coaches praised his blend of power and tactical intelligence, marking him as one of Britain’s most exciting prospects.

An Explosive Professional Debut

In January 2023, Itauma signed with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. His debut lasted just 23 seconds, proving his southpaw stance, blistering hand speed, and knockout power. Furthermore, he has since compiled a flawless 12-0 record, with 10 knockouts, most inside the first two rounds.

Chasing Greatness – The Dillian Whyte Challenge

Currently holding the WBO Intercontinental and WBA International heavyweight titles, Itauma now faces former world title contender Dillian Whyte in Saudi Arabia. Importantly, many see this fight as the defining test of his young career.

Elite Guidance and Experience

Trained by Ben Davison, known for working with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, Itauma has evolved from a raw knockout artist into a well-rounded fighter. In addition, sparring with Fury, Joshua, and Joe Joyce has further sharpened his skills and mental toughness.

Ambitions Beyond Hype

Initially aiming to break Mike Tyson’s record as the youngest heavyweight champion, Itauma quickly realised the complexity of the sport. However, he continues to rise steadily, winning fans who believe his potential is genuine, not just a marketing push.

Style, Inspiration, and Physical Presence

Weighing between 235–250 lbs, Itauma pairs natural size with explosive speed. Moreover, influenced by Prince Naseem Hamed’s flamboyance, he adds creativity to his direct, power-driven approach.

This Saturday, the Nigerian-British prospect will look to add Whyte to his list of knockout victories. Ultimately, from humble beginnings in Slovakia to the global stage, Moses Itauma’s journey is only beginning, and the heavyweight division may soon have a new superstar.
