Several schools across Lagos closed earlier than scheduled on Thursday after reports of a security threat sparked concerns for the safety of students and staff.

Odinaka Mbonu, a consultant with Corona School, told BusinessDay that the school decided to close early after parents shared information about a potential threat.

“The school decided to close early today and tomorrow due to a security threat received,” he said. “Although it was not directed at Corona School, we took the step as a precaution.”

Mbonu added that the school lacked clear details on the source or nature of the threat but chose not to take any risks.

Similarly, Lai Kioki, owner of Green Spring Schools, said the management instructed early closure after hearing about the threat to protect lives.

However, a BusinessDay visit to GreenSpring School in Awoyaya showed normal activities, with pupils playing football and parents arriving to pick up their children.

A staff member said the information circulated mainly on social media and that the school remained on alert. Activities also continued as usual at the Green Spring Awoyaya annex, both within and around the school premises.
