The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several members for endorsing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing gross misconduct and disloyalty.
Segun Edwards, spokesperson for the PDP Elders Caucus and chairman of one of the party’s local government branches, confirmed the expulsion on Thursday. He made the announcement following a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held to review the outcome of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja last week.
According to Edwards, the expelled members were removed for openly aligning with a rival political party—an action party elders described as a clear violation of the PDP’s constitution and principles.
“The individuals in question publicly pledged support for the ADC, thereby breaching party discipline and loyalty,” Edwards said. “Their actions are incompatible with our values, and the stakeholders unanimously voted for their immediate expulsion.”
The meeting also directed all local government PDP chairmen to begin mobilization ahead of the party’s congresses, scheduled between September and November, covering all levels from local wards to the national convention.
PDP elders reaffirmed their commitment to rebuilding the party in Lagos and emphasized that further acts of indiscipline would be met with firm disciplinary measures.
Party insiders noted that the decision is intended to strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the upcoming congresses and to ensure that only dedicated members participate in the restructuring process.
