The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to reconsider his 2027 presidential ambition following his party’s performance in the recent Anambra governorship election.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said the results signaled a significant decline in the Labour Party’s grassroots influence and the waning momentum of Obi’s “Obedient Movement.”

According to Oladejo, the outcome, particularly in Obi’s polling unit, revealed that LP’s political structure in its stronghold was “crumbling.” He stressed that social media popularity cannot substitute for consistent grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement.

“The Anambra election underscores the importance of structure and sustained political organisation,” he noted.

Oladejo also praised President Bola Tinubu’s focus on governance and reform, saying that while the president remains committed to delivering on his promises, other political players should channel their energy into building capacity and maintaining strong local networks.

He added that the APC’s performance in Anambra reflected growing public confidence in the party’s leadership, highlighting that “good governance and results remain the strongest tools for political success.”

The spokesperson commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a transparent and peaceful poll and lauded security agencies for maintaining order during the exercise.

He emphasised that electoral victories are achieved through planning, performance, and effective grassroots engagement.

“Political actors should draw lessons from Anambra to strengthen their connection with the people and ensure improved outcomes in future elections,” Oladejo stated.

Reaffirming APC’s commitment to national development and unity, he said performance and structure would continue to define electoral success in Nigeria.

Oladejo congratulated APC members and supporters in Anambra for their commitment and resilience, noting that the Lagos APC shared in their optimism for a stronger democratic process.

He further urged all political parties to focus on peaceful campaigns and issue-based politics, adding that democracy thrives when politicians respect the people’s will.

“Our goal remains to promote good governance and inclusive development at all levels,” he said. “Citizens should stay engaged and support democratic institutions as APC continues to expand its reach across the country.”
