A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Delta State and member of the Obidient Elders Council, Delly Ajufo, has claimed that the party actually won both the 2023 presidential and governorship elections in the state, contrary to official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Ajufo alleged that the outcomes were manipulated, insisting LP’s victories were suppressed.

“The tsunami that greeted the presidential election in Delta State was unprecedented. Some of us, including myself, were offered huge sums of money to support the ruling party, PDP. I rejected it. Our people were brutalized during collation,” he said.

According to INEC, the Labour Party won the presidential vote in Delta with 160,123 votes, followed by the PDP with 67,567, and APC with 45,074. However, in the governorship election, PDP emerged victorious with 360,000 votes, followed by APC with 240,000, while LP trailed with just over 48,000 votes.

Despite this, Ajufo maintained that LP had the true mandate.

“We have the figures to prove that LP won at both levels. Even the former APC South-South Deputy Chairman confirmed this in a recent interview with Dr. Pat Utomi. We weren’t prepared for the level of electoral malpractice we witnessed, but now we are ready.”

Defections Won’t Affect LP – Ajufo

On the recent wave of political defections in the state, Ajufo dismissed their impact, likening defectors to “harlots of Jericho.”

“These are individuals who use their positions to invite external influence for selfish gain. They are merely protecting their loot. Their defection won’t change anything for the people,” he said.

Ajufo lamented the state of governance in Delta, blaming persistent poverty on poor leadership and weaponized hunger.

“There will be a serious implosion in the APC. Those defecting are chasing the same political positions. It’s only a matter of time before the cracks widen.”

He called on Deltans to remain steadfast and not be swayed by political opportunists, assuring that Labour Party remains focused and better prepared for future elections.
