The national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has clarified that he has not rejected the All Progressives Congress, saying that he is cautious due to past experiences.

Mr Kwankwaso stated this while addressing party leaders and supporters from Rano and Dawakin Tofa at his residence in Kano on Wednesday, adding that his position has been misunderstood and he has been cautious based on past political experiences.

“I didn’t say I won’t join APC, but we must first be clearly assured of the future of the Kano state government before we join the APC.

“What will be the fate of our lawmakers and other supporters before we agree to defect?” Mr Kwankwaso stated.

The former governor recalled previous political alliances in which his camp played a significant role in forming governments, but claimed that it was later sidelined.

Mr Kwankwaso emphasised that any defection must be based on clear assurances regarding the protection of his supporters and the Kano government’s structures.

The former governor emphasised that no firm guarantees had been offered to safeguard Kwankwasiyya’s interests or ensure fair treatment of its members within any new arrangement.

“Without written assurances, abandoning the NNPP would be premature and risky,” he stated.

Mr Kwankwaso reiterated his commitment to protecting his supporters’ mandate and interests, assuring them that no decision would be taken without broad consultations and clear benefits to the people.
