Former Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya State Caucus have denied reports and public claims suggesting that the former governor or his supporters plan to defect to another political party.
The caucus said the decision was reaffirmed at a meeting held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Kwankwasiyya House in Kano.
A statement issued after the meeting said the group firmly opposed what it described as false and unauthorised discussions about defection.
According to the caucus, such claims do not reflect the values or operational style of the Kwankwasiyya Movement. It characterised the reports as misleading and urged the public to disregard them entirely.
The group noted that, while some individuals may have made the claims due to misinformation or external influence, no grudge is held against them. Members, however, were cautioned to refrain from making unauthorised statements and to assist in correcting false information.
The caucus emphasised that Kwankwaso and the entire Kwankwasiyya Movement remain fully committed to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). It added that no one has been authorised to speak or act on defection and that any future political decision will be communicated through official channels.
On the ongoing NNPP crisis in Kano, the caucus noted that the party’s national leadership had dissolved state, local government, and ward executives. It stated that there is currently no recognised NNPP leadership in Kano and warned that no individual or group should claim to represent the party at this time.
Members were urged to remain calm, disciplined, and united, and to avoid spreading rumours or engaging with the media without authorisation.
