The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of a lecturer at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), who was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving an articulated truck in Lokoja, Kogi State.

According to the FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi, Tenimu Etuku, the victim, identified as Mrs. Kemi Emmanuel, was a respected academic in the Department of Theatre Arts at FUL. Etuku described the incident as “deeply tragic and unfortunate.”

The accident reportedly occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Crusher Junction in Lokoja. Mrs. Emmanuel was said to have fallen off a commercial motorcycle after being struck by the speeding truck.

“Our rescue team responded swiftly and rushed her to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, but she was confirmed dead on arrival,” Etuku stated. He added that the lecturer’s remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

The sector commander expressed dismay over the conduct of the motorcycle rider, who allegedly fled the scene claiming to be pursuing the fleeing truck. Etuku urged motorcycle riders to exercise caution and avoid competing with heavy-duty vehicles on highways to prevent avoidable loss of lives.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Nigerian Army has rescued 24 kidnapped victims during coordinated operations across Kwara and Kogi states.

Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Polycarp Okoye, disclosed in a statement that troops from the 12 Brigade Lokoja and 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin carried out the successful operation.

The rescued victims included 14 men, five women, an infant, and four Chinese nationals who had been abducted from different locations within the two states. Some of the captives had reportedly spent over four months in captivity.
