The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and major stakeholders in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector have approved the minimum cut-off marks for admissions into higher institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session.

At the 2025 policy meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday with Heads of Tertiary Institutions and other stakeholders, it was agreed that the minimum score for universities will be 150.

Polytechnics and Colleges of Education will admit candidates with a minimum of 100, while Colleges of Nursing Sciences will accept a minimum of 140.

This decision followed extensive deliberations to ensure fairness, inclusivity, and quality across Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

JAMB stated that institutions must strictly adhere to these guidelines to maintain transparency in the admission process.

Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, explained that these cut-off marks are national baselines, allowing institutions to set higher standards based on their internal policies and competitiveness.

This approval signals the start of the 2025 admission cycle as candidates and institutions prepare for the selection process through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
