Social critic Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step down, citing the deepening economic hardship and rising insecurity across the country.
In a video shared on Instagram, Fayose faulted President Tinubu’s handling of national affairs, accusing him of failing to curb widespread poverty, banditry and kidnappings. He decried what he described as a nation “in collapse,” insisting that the current administration has not shown the capacity to safeguard citizens or stabilise the economy.
Fayose referenced Monday’s abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, during which the vice principal of the school was killed, questioning how the president could continue in office amid such tragedies.
“President Tinubu, I think it is time for you to resign. How do you remain comfortable being president over a failed nation — kidnapping, poverty and killings everywhere?” he said.
“If you truly love Nigeria, resign. You are not capable of ruling this country at this point. Allow young people to come in and fix this nation.”
He also expressed frustration over the frequent deaths of Nigerian soldiers in clashes with terrorists and armed groups, stressing that the country needs urgent action rather than silence from its leaders.
Fayose’s remarks have triggered intense debate across social media. Many commenters supported his position, accusing the government of failing to protect citizens and improve living conditions.
One user wrote:
“Some people can talk but won’t speak — thank you for speaking up, sir.”
Another commenter added:
“Tinubu is not capable. He should resign — period.”
Others criticised the government for rejecting international support to combat insecurity, arguing that Nigeria cannot claim sovereignty while failing to protect its people.
As at the time of filing this report, the Presidency has not responded to Fayose’s comments.
