Singer and songwriter Qing Madi has recounted an incident in which she was reportedly overcharged N50,000 for a drug that was originally priced at N2,000 at a local pharmacy.

Speaking on the ‘Tea with Tay’ podcast, Madi said the event unfolded when her father asked her to purchase medicine at a nearby pharmacy while they were in the car together.

“Sometimes, before, because my parents didn’t know how much I had spent at the time. Not until one day, I was in the car with my parents, and they asked me to get down in front of the pharmacy to get medicine. Now, mind you, my father was there. I’m not going to say no,” she explained.

Madi added that pharmacy staff immediately recognised her, taking photos and videos as she approached the counter. The situation reportedly escalated when her father confronted the staff about the inflated price, which the pharmacy denied.

The singer’s account highlights challenges public figures sometimes face in everyday transactions, particularly when their fame becomes a factor in customer service experiences.

“When I got there, they started taking pictures of me,” she said. “To my shock, the drug that originally cost N2,000 was sold to me for N50,000. My dad got very angry and went back for them, but they denied it. I was so embarrassed because of everything, the photos, the overcharge.”

Madi, known for hits like “See Finish” and “Ole”, shared the story as a cautionary tale about the challenges of sudden fame.
