Former Referee Defends Osimhen: ‘His Intensity Comes From High Professional Ethics’

Ahmet Çakar, former Turkey referee, has offered a glowing assessment of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, emphasizing the Nigerian forward’s remarkable professionalism and dedication both on and off the pitch.

Drawing from his extensive experience observing players across Europe and Turkey, Çakar highlighted what he sees as Osimhen’s unique blend of discipline, commitment, and competitive spirit that sets him apart from many of his peers.

Speaking on the Libero TV YouTube channel, Çakar reflected on his observations of the Nigerian forward.

“Osimhen is a very strange kid. I don’t know him at all. I don’t have the chance to get to know him. I watch the matches he plays, and his professional dedication and professional ethics are perhaps number one at Galatasaray,” Çakar said, as quoted by habersarikirmizi.

Çakar further delved into Osimhen’s conduct, noting that the striker approaches his responsibilities with a level of discipline that leaves a strong impression on those who follow him closely.

“He doesn’t accept things passively, he shouts at his teammates, he doesn’t slack off, he returns to Türkiye when his job is done, he doesn’t miss his flight,” he explained.

The former referee also praised Osimhen’s relentless determination and work ethic, underlining that his influence extends beyond mere statistics.

“He’s a player with very high professional ethics. Even if he doesn’t score goals, I take my hat off to the fight he shows,” Çakar added.

However, Çakar did issue a word of caution regarding the striker’s temperament, especially under pressure. He noted that while Osimhen’s fiery side is part of his drive, it can also be unpredictable.

“But don’t push Osimhen to the breaking point, I sensed it. I can’t predict what Osimhen will do when he loses his temper. That’s the kind of kid he is. That’s how he broke away from Napoli in the first place,” he said.

On the field, Osimhen has continued to justify the praise, maintaining his scintillating form with a goal on his return to the Süper Lig.

The Super Eagles forward played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s 3-1 victory over Fatih Karagümrük on Saturday evening, netting the Yellow-Reds’ third goal in the second half.

Fresh from representing Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen’s strike increases his season tally to 13 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions, further cementing his reputation as a key figure for the Istanbul giants.
