Convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has been re-arraigned before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja over the alleged murder of two police officers.
Evans appeared in court alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Ikenna Emeka, before Justice Oyindamola Ogala, to face a five-count charge bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping, in violation of Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly murdered Peter Nwaeke on March 28, 2013, around 10:00 p.m. along 3rd Avenue, Festac Town, and also killed Chijioke Ngozi on August 27, 2013, at the same location.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges. The prosecution counsel, Mr. O. A. Azeez, informed the court that the matter was initially before Justice Adenike Coker, who is now on national assignment, leading to the reassignment of the case.
Counsel for the first and second defendants, Mr. O. Charity and Mr. M. C. Onyechiofor, respectively, confirmed the case’s transfer from Justice Coker’s court.
After granting the prosecution’s request for re-arraignment, Justice Ogala adjourned the case to November 19, 2025, for hearing and the issuance of witness summons.
Evans is currently standing trial in five separate criminal cases involving kidnapping and murder and has already been convicted in two of them.
