The Enugu State Government has offered a ₦10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya’s killers.
In a statement on Sunday, September 21, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, condemned the murder. He described the crime as cowardly and cold-blooded.
Fr. Eya lost his life on Friday, September 19, when gunmen attacked him along the Alumona–Eha Ndiagu road in Nsukka Local Government Area.
Dr. Agbo stressed that the government will not compromise the safety of lives and property. He vowed that the criminals will face justice.
Furthermore, he assured the public that the state will deploy every available resource. These include modern technology and credible intelligence, all aimed at tracking down the killers.
“Consequently, the Enugu State Government has placed a ₦10 million reward for anyone with credible information that could lead to their arrest. Anybody with credible information should immediately contact 07077451426,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the government expressed its condolences to the priest’s family. It also commiserated with the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka and the wider Catholic community.
