Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has described the repeated defeats of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a victory for democracy and a cause for celebration across the state.
Speaking on Friday during a victory motorcade around Benin City, Okpebholo said the people of Edo have every reason to rejoice. He was accompanied by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, as well as APC leaders, youth groups, and market women.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has consistently triumphed over the PDP, from the ballot box to the courtroom.
“We defeated them in the governorship election, then at the Tribunal, and now at the Appeal Court,” he said. “We’ll defeat them again at the Supreme Court. God is truly in control of Edo.”
Okpebholo Hails Tinubu, Commends Judiciary’s Courage
In addition, the governor praised President Bola Tinubu for his support and commitment to Edo’s development. He expressed confidence that the people of the state would stand behind the president once more in the 2027 elections.
“No one can silence the voice of the people, not even the PDP,” Okpebholo declared.
He also alleged that the PDP had tried to influence the judiciary using stolen funds. However, he noted that the judges refused to be swayed and instead stood for truth and justice.
Okpebholo criticised opposition leaders who continue to claim their mandate was stolen. He said their alliance with figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would not yield results.
“The era of the PDP in Edo is over,” he added. “Under my leadership, we will deliver real, lasting development.”
He pointed to projects such as the ongoing Ikpoba-Hill flyover, with two additional ones planned.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal ruled on Thursday that the PDP’s petition lacked merit. Justice Mohammed Danjuma affirmed Okpebholo’s election, stating that no substantial evidence was provided by the opposition.
