The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one person in connection with the death of Afrofuji singer Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
Naija News reports that the police confirmed that the matter has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for a deeper probe.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, investigations have begun into the death of the 22-year-old artiste.
He added that one suspect is already in custody while detectives continue their work.
The spokesperson said: “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”
News of Destiny Boy’s death surfaced on Sunday after videos showing his body being taken to a mortuary spread across social media.
The clips triggered grief among fans and raised questions about how he died.
In one of the videos, the singer was seen lying at the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.
Another video later appeared online, featuring an unidentified associate who tried to clear the air about the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
The man said Destiny Boy had been dealing with a private health problem before he passed away and that efforts were made to help him, but he did not survive.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy started music at a young age and became known for blending Fuji sounds into modern songs.
He began his journey at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji star Pasuma.
Destiny became popular in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which gained wide attention on social media.
He also dropped covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor.
Some of his songs include Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.
Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child in November 2024.
