Afrobeats sensation Davido has taken fans down memory lane, reflecting on his humble beginnings in the music industry.
In a nostalgic post on X, the Grammy-nominated artist revealed that in 2011, he skipped school at Babcock University to perform at a show in Ibadan. According to him, friends Asa, Peju, B-Red, and Sina had picked him up to join the Lynxxx and Friends Tour — a move that later got him into trouble when the performance aired on Soundcity and caught his father’s attention.
“In 2011, I skipped school to perform in Ibadan. Asa, Peju, B Red, and Sina picked me up from Babcock, and we drove to join the Lynxxx and Friends Tour. I had no idea it was going to air on Soundcity, and when my pops saw it, I got in so much trouble,” he recalled.
“Fourteen years later, we destroyed the stadium. The 5ive Alive run across Nigeria has been one for the books,” he added, celebrating how far he has come.
Davido’s 5ive Alive Tour has drawn massive crowds across Nigerian cities and featured collaborations with several top acts. The artist also used the moment to encourage his peers to invest in Nigeria and contribute to the nation’s growth.
“To my peers, let’s build back home and give back to our roots. Big love to all our sponsors for backing this historic tour,” he wrote.
The tour will continue with upcoming shows in Abuja and Lagos before Davido heads to the United States. He is scheduled to perform at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on November 20, as part of his birthday celebration on November 21.
