Coalition Against Tinubu Collapsed on Arrival – Wike Speaks Out

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the proposed opposition coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, claiming it “died the very day it was conceived.”

Wike made the remarks on Friday during the inauguration of the left-hand service lane of the Apo-Wasa Road in Abuja. His comments appeared to target the emerging alliance led by key political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Wike, known for his fiery rhetoric, questioned the seriousness and unity of purpose among the coalition members.

“Which coalition? Is it left or right? A coalition that was born and died the same day?” he mocked.

“Up till now, they haven’t even settled their internal differences.”

He went further to praise President Tinubu’s administration for delivering on promises, especially to Abuja residents. He criticized past leaders for making empty promises and said the ongoing infrastructural developments in the FCT show real commitment.

“They come with lies, making promises they never fulfilled. This man (Tinubu) said he would do the road—and he did it. He promised to relocate people—and he’s doing it,” Wike stated.

Wike also took a jab at critics of the Tinubu administration, suggesting their discontent stems from envy.

“Some are angry because we’re commissioning the projects they could not complete,” he said.

“Mr. President is not here to please unnecessary critics. I’m not here to please them either—I’m here for Abuja residents.”

He further highlighted the Tinubu-led administration’s pace of commissioning projects, describing it as unprecedented in Nigeria’s history.

“Seventeen days straight of commissioning projects, it has never happened before. And I’m not talking about flag-offs, I mean real commissioning,” Wike stressed.

The FCT Minister ended with a pledge of loyalty to President Tinubu, assuring continued support from the capital’s leadership.
