Charly Boy Reacts to Renaming of Bariga Bus Stop After Olamide ‘Baddo’

Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has broken his silence following the Lagos State Government’s decision to rename the Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga to “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop,” in honour of indigenous rapper and Bariga native, Olamide Adedeji.

In a brief comment to Daily Post on Saturday, Charly Boy responded to the development with an air of indifference, stating simply, “Na dem sabi,” a colloquial phrase loosely meaning, “That’s their business.”

The renaming is part of a wider initiative by the Lagos State Government aimed at celebrating prominent Nigerians—particularly in the entertainment and sports sectors—by renaming key roads and landmarks in their honour.

Several other locations in Bariga and surrounding areas have also been renamed. Ilaje Road has been renamed King Sunny Ade Road in tribute to the Juju music icon; Bariga Road is now Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, recognising the Nigerian President and former Lagos Governor; while Community Road in Akoka has been renamed Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road after the incumbent governor.

Other notable changes include:

Ajidagan Street, now Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street

Ifeanyi Street, renamed Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, after the singer 9ice

Ayodele Street in Ladi-Lak, now Tony Tetuila Street, in honour of the Afro-pop veteran

Ilojo Crescent in Obanikoro, now Bukayo Saka Street, named after the England and Arsenal footballer of Nigerian heritage

The wave of renaming has generated mixed reactions across social media. While some have praised the gesture as a form of cultural recognition, others have criticised it as historically insensitive or politically motivated.
