A woman has filed a civil lawsuit against Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B, accusing her of assault, battery, and negligence stemming from an incident at a 2023 concert in Las Vegas.
According to Naija News, the plaintiff, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, lodged the complaint on Monday, July 21. The lawsuit centers around an episode at Drai’s Beachclub, where Cardi B was caught on video throwing a microphone into the crowd—a clip that quickly went viral.
Jane Doe claims she was struck by the microphone, resulting in physical injuries and emotional trauma. The alleged incident occurred while Cardi B was performing her hit track “Bodak Yellow.” According to the suit, the microphone was thrown in retaliation after a concertgoer splashed water on the rapper during the performance.
Although Cardi B initially appeared to laugh off the water incident, the plaintiff asserts that the rapper’s demeanor shifted abruptly before hurling the microphone into the audience.
The lawsuit also criticizes Drai’s Management Group, the event’s organizers, for allegedly failing to implement adequate crowd control measures and security protocols. The plaintiff referenced a similar incident involving Cardi B the previous night, when she reportedly threw a microphone at a DJ, arguing that organizers should have foreseen the risk.
While Las Vegas law enforcement previously closed the criminal investigation citing insufficient evidence, the matter has now resurfaced as a civil case. The plaintiff is seeking damages for medical expenses, emotional distress, and reputational harm—especially as the incident gained widespread online attention and the same microphone was reportedly auctioned for nearly $100,000.
Cardi B’s legal team has dismissed the claims, labeling the lawsuit “frivolous” and asserting the rapper acted without malicious intent.
