The governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have hailed the enduring legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their Sallah visit to his residence in Kaduna. The governors, led by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, expressed their gratitude for Buhari’s instrumental role in shaping the party and Nigeria’s democracy.

A Legacy of Strong Leadership and Unity

The APC governors acknowledged Buhari’s pivotal contributions, particularly his founding role in the party, which continues to guide the party’s direction today. They emphasized his unparalleled achievement in defeating an incumbent president, noting that Buhari’s leadership left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political landscape.

“Your legacy in Nigerian history is secure,” Uzodinma said, referencing Buhari’s ability to unite the nation and his leadership on key issues like security, economic recovery, and anti-corruption. The governors praised his administration for reclaiming territories from insurgents, extending vital social investment programs, and advancing infrastructure through road and rail projects. They also highlighted initiatives like the Anchor Borrowers Scheme that positively impacted food security.

The governors commended Buhari for his role in promoting the APC’s core principles and for exemplifying dignity in governance. They lauded his public endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as a symbol of continuity within the party’s leadership.

Buhari’s Advice to Governors: Focus on Citizens

In his response, former President Buhari urged the governors to adopt a citizen-centric approach to leadership. He reminded them that the true essence of governance lies in prioritizing the welfare of the people over personal interests. Drawing from his own example, Buhari pointed out that he left office with the same assets he had before his presidency, underscoring the importance of integrity in leadership.

Buhari also expressed confidence in the APC governors’ progress and reaffirmed his support for the nation’s continued development. He acknowledged the renovations made to his Kaduna residence by the Tinubu administration, while noting the improvements were more visible inside than on the exterior.

A Moment of Reflection and Responsibility

The Sallah visit served not only as a moment of reflection on Buhari’s achievements but also as a reminder to the APC governors of the responsibility they bear in continuing the nation’s journey toward prosperity.
