Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has retired from professional football after almost 20 years on the field. The Nigerian forward, who built a career across Europe and Asia, confirmed his decision in an emotional message on X (formerly Twitter).

Emotional Farewell from Ideye

The 36-year-old thanked God, his family, coaches, teammates, and journalists for their support. He noted that football gave him lasting memories and life lessons. In addition, he expressed deep appreciation to Nigerian fans for their loyalty throughout his journey.

Ideye also celebrated the chance to wear the green and white jersey. According to him, representing the Super Eagles remains one of his proudest achievements.

Ideye played for Nigeria between 2010 and 2016. He earned 28 caps and scored six goals during that period. His biggest triumph came in 2013 when Stephen Keshi’s side won the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

He also represented the country at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil later that year. Furthermore, he was part of the squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Club Career Across Continents

The striker began his professional journey in Nigeria with Bayelsa United and Ocean Boys. He later moved abroad to play in France for Sochaux. After that, he joined Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine, where he enjoyed success.

In 2014, Ideye moved to England and signed for West Bromwich Albion. He made 24 appearances and scored four goals in the Premier League. Later, he represented Olympiacos in Greece, Tianjin Teda in China, Málaga in Spain, and Aris Thessaloniki in Greece.

Toward the end of his career, Ideye returned to Nigeria. He featured for Enyimba International, making his last appearance in May 2025 against Plateau United.

Life After Retirement

Although his playing days have ended, Ideye remains connected to football. Recently, he accepted a role with Atlantic Business FC in Nigeria’s TCC League. The former striker now focuses on mentoring young players and developing future talents.
