Nigerians are fuming following the sudden release of Adamawa billionaire and philanthropist, Dr Emmanuel Musa, who was remanded alongside four others for allegedly assassinating grassroots politician, Thomas Godwin, popularly known as Zamfara.
SaharaReporters gathered that Dr Musa was freed after the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered a temporary withdrawal of charges for “further investigation.”
The dramatic release happened around 4:30pm on Friday when Magistrate Uwani Danladi Mohammed was reportedly called back to court after closing for the day. Court insiders confirmed that the First Information Report (FIR) against Musa and his co-defendants was withdrawn, halting proceedings for now.
By Saturday morning, Dr Musa and the other accused persons allegedly departed Yola aboard a chartered private jet.
Many Nigerians believe his sudden defection from the opposition PDP to the ruling APC after the murder allegations played a role in his freedom.
Recall that Dr Musa and four others were arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide for allegedly ambushing and killing Zamfara in April 2025 while he travelled to his hometown. Prosecutors accused Musa of sponsoring the attack.
The case has now sparked national outrage, with citizens questioning if Nigeria’s justice system serves the people or the powerful.
This is not Dr Musa’s first controversy. Two years ago, he was caught on video inciting violence at a crusade in Kala’a town, where he told youths to attack people he labelled witches. The rampage left houses, shops, and vehicles worth over N200 million destroyed.
For now, Nigerians wait to see if “further investigations” will deliver justice — or bury the case in silence.
