Nigerian travel content creator Alma Asinobi faced a major challenge in her quest to visit all seven continents in record time. She encountered visa issues that prevented her from entering Australia, her final destination.
Asinobi launched her #AlmaChasingContinents journey to highlight the struggles of African travelers with restrictive passports. Her trip began in Antarctica, then continued through Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
After traveling for 56 hours, she planned to land in Perth, Australia. However, authorities did not approve her entry in time, preventing her from boarding her flight.
“I was denied boarding on my flight to Perth,” she shared on social media. “The airline put me on standby, waiting for confirmation from Australia. But by the time they responded, the gate had already closed.”
The airline offered her two alternative destinations: Brisbane or Sydney. She chose Sydney, a city she had long wanted to visit.
Overcoming Exhaustion and Uncertainty
The delays and rebookings drained her energy. She admitted she considered quitting. “I thought about canceling my flight and heading home,” she said. “But I’m not one to start something and not finish.”
With swollen legs and little rest, she kept pushing forward. “For over 56 hours, I moved like a robot, focusing only on getting to Australia as soon as possible,” she added.
Determined to Complete the Mission
Now on her way to Sydney, Asinobi remains committed to her goal. She plans to raise the Nigerian flag on the seventh continent before returning home.
“This journey has taught me more than I expected,” she said. “One day, I hope to see change for African travelers. But right now, we’re still far from that day.”
Despite the struggles, she expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support. “What started as a fun adventure became a movement,” she said. “Every message and comment gave me the strength to keep going.”
Now, with her final destination in sight, she looks forward to celebrating this achievement with her supporters back home.
