The AU Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly has completed a high-level visit to the African Union Commission (AUC) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from September 5–10. The mission coincided with the 2nd Africa Climate Conference and the 2nd CIDO Summit.

The delegation was led by Ambassador Dr. Stephen Gbatigbi Ben-Joel, Head of Mission, and included senior representatives such as Dr. Engr. Kingsley Onyekachi Okwara, Deputy Head of Mission; Ambassador Engr. Dr. Williams Chima Nwaobi; Ambassador Dr. Valentine Unimuke; Ambassador Ikechukwu Okorie; Ambassador Bishop Sam Owusu; Ambassador Sandra Ewor; and Ambassador A. Mansur.

At the AUC, the assembly held strategic discussions with senior officials, including Ambassador Bankole Adeyomi, Commissioner for Political, Peace and Security Affairs, and Ms. Agenda Odai, Head of Department at CIDO. The talks focused on deepening cooperation to advance Agenda 2063, the African Union’s blueprint for inclusive growth and socio-economic transformation.

Dr. Okwara underscored the importance of reintegrating war victims and internally displaced persons, as well as intensifying efforts against human trafficking. Commissioner Adeyomi commended the delegation’s commitment, urging them to actively engage in AU initiatives and programs while stressing the collective responsibility to achieve Agenda 2063’s long-term goals.

Beyond institutional meetings, the delegation participated in the 2nd Africa Climate Conference, contributing to climate diplomacy dialogues with global leaders, including Mr. Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa.

Diplomatic engagements extended to Nigeria’s mission in Addis Ababa, where Ambassador Maxy Ogbede hosted the delegation at the Nigerian Embassy’s Presidential Villa on September 9, further cementing bilateral ties.

The visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening collaboration between the AU Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly and the AUC. With COP30 in Brazil on the horizon, the Assembly is poised to amplify Africa’s voice on climate action and sustainable development, building momentum toward the realization of Agenda 2063.
