The All Progressives Congress said Nyesom Wike would not control Rivers structures after any defection. The party noted he must recognise Governor Siminalayi Fubara as state leader. It insisted political hierarchy remains tied to current offices, not federal status.
APC explained that joining the party grants membership, not automatic authority in any state. Bala Ibrahim confirmed the minister would receive accommodation if he defects. He however stressed this would not diminish the influence of the sitting governor.
Ibrahim stated that leadership flows from position and constitutional mandate. He added that political loyalty should align with present authority in Rivers State. The spokesman argued that former influence cannot replace the power of an incumbent office holder.
He said: Wike will be given a seat and a place within the APC. He called it a personal decision to work under Fubara’s leadership. Ibrahim warned that compliance brings support, but resistance brings isolation. He reminded the minister that roles change once a governor leaves office.
The director maintained that no one gets demands outside APC regulations. He emphasised that party rules apply to all members without exception. The APC spokesman added that political guidelines must be respected at every level. He declared that no individual stands above the party.
Tensions between Wike and Fubara have grown over structure and legislative loyalty in Rivers. APC said these disputes do not alter its established internal order. The party reaffirmed commitment to collective discipline and constitutional leadership.
Politics Nigeria earlier reported widening cracks between both leaders in the state. Lawmakers and stakeholders remain divided along competing loyalty lines. APC urged reconciliation within the bounds of its regulations.
