The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released personal details of candidates contesting the Anambra State governorship election.

Sixteen political parties submitted their nomination forms before the deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025. The Commission confirmed this through a statement by Sam Olumekun, its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee.

Candidate Details Now on Display

Olumekun said the Commission has published each candidate’s Form EC9, academic credentials, and other submitted documents. These are now available for public viewing at INEC’s state headquarters and 21 local government offices across Anambra.

He explained that this step complies with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022. He also noted that all parties met the submission deadline set in the election timetable.

“Following the conclusion of primaries, all 16 parties uploaded their nomination forms before the portal closed,” he said.

INEC asked the public, especially those who contested in party primaries, to examine the documents carefully.

INEC Urges Legal Action If Necessary

Anyone who believes a candidate submitted false information can seek legal redress. INEC reminded stakeholders that Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act allows such cases to be filed at a Federal High Court.

“We urge Nigerians to scrutinise the documents,” the Commission said. “If an aspirant has proof that a candidate’s information is false, the law allows a legal challenge.”

Olumekun also announced the next major deadline. INEC will publish the final list of candidates on June 9, 2025. This date is at least 150 days before the November 8 governorship election, in line with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act.

The Anambra State governorship election will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
