Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on the people of Remoland to deepen unity and cooperation with their Ijebu kinsmen to achieve the proposed Ijebu-Remo State.

Akpabio made the appeal at the 2025 Remo Day celebration held on Saturday at the Akarigbo Pavilion, Sagamu. He said harmony and collaboration were vital to realising the shared aspiration.

He described the Remo people as industrious, enterprising, and strong industrial players, adding that their cooperative spirit would be crucial to state creation.

“I urge the Remo people to continue to live in peace. Remo is blessed with hardworking industrialists, which explains the high concentration of industries here,” he said.

“I also urge you to work closely with the Ijebu people towards creating the Ijebu State. We at the National Assembly will support you. I won’t speak on the state capital, but you already know. The capital must, however, be in a peaceful environment.”

Akpabio said the cultural festival provided a moment for reflection and strategic planning for homeland development. He added that his presence underscored Nigeria’s unity across ethnic lines and urged citizens to see diversity as a strength.

He assured Nigerians that insecurity would soon be addressed, noting that President Bola Tinubu was working diligently to tackle security challenges nationwide.

Akpabio also praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for infrastructure development, singling out the Gateway International Airport, which he described as the best in the country.

Governor Abiodun said Remoland was blessed with illustrious sons and daughters who had contributed significantly to Ogun State and Nigeria. He noted that the large turnout reflected the unifying power of culture and warned that societies that lose touch with their roots risk losing their identity.

“Remo is more than a geographical expression; it is a people with a rich and enduring history,” Abiodun said.

Earlier, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, said Remo Day was established to celebrate, preserve, and project Remo culture to the global stage.
