Adeleke Describes Aregbesola’s Tenure as Osun’s Worst

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has labelled the administration of former governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as the worst in the history of the state.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo on Monday, Adeleke responded to Aregbesola’s recent threats to unseat him in 2026. He reminded the former governor that the state is still reeling from what he described as the “inhumane maladministration” of Aregbesola’s tenure.

Adeleke criticised Aregbesola as “a man who left behind a legacy of massive state debt, half salaries, fraudulent tablet projects, and numerous inflated, uncompleted initiatives,” asserting that his administration was the worst Osun has ever experienced.

Aregbesola, who is the interim national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), told supporters at Oranmiyan House in Osogbo on Sunday that his party’s immediate goal is to remove Adeleke from office.

In response, Adeleke stated: “Mr Aregbesola’s empty boast about 2026 is a symptom of a troubled mind plagued by delusions. He continues to battle his benefactor while being haunted by the pain and suffering he inflicted on millions of Osun residents through his disastrous policies.”

He added: “Instead of being remorseful and apologising for his years of misgovernance, Mr Aregbesola has the audacity to threaten the current administration, which is working to clear the mess left behind after his eight years of anti-people leadership.

“His cruelty towards workers and the people of Osun was boundless. A man who implemented half salaries, mismanaged contributory pension funds, and diverted cooperative deductions should be ashamed to criticise a governor who is now paying the outstanding half salaries, addressing the unjustified debts, and rehabilitating traumatised workers across the state.”
