Adeleke Backs Deputy Gov Adewusi Amid PDP Allegations

The Osun State Government has downplayed allegations of anti-party activities against Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi. It stressed that his office remains intact, and Governor Ademola Adeleke still reposes absolute confidence in his deputy.

Government Stands by Adewusi and Oladipo

In a statement released on Wednesday, Information and Public Enlightenment Commissioner Kolapo Alimi described the controversy in Ife Federal Constituency as a “family dispute.” According to him, the matter is already being handled by party leaders and does not affect the deputy governor’s position.

Alimi explained that Adewusi remains a loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a trusted partner in the Adeleke administration. He added that the state government values his integrity and unwavering commitment.

The commissioner also defended Prof. Wale Oladipo, former PDP National Secretary. He emphasized that Oladipo continues to serve as a respected member of the party’s Board of Trustees and also chairs the Osun State University Governing Council.

Alimi insisted that the accusations have not diminished the status of either Adewusi or Oladipo. “The government reposes strong confidence in both men. They maintain close ties with Governor Adeleke and remain pillars of the PDP-led administration,” he stated.

He also noted that both leaders maintain good working relationships with the governor, which strengthens the stability of the party in Osun State.

Background to the Controversy

The defense came shortly after a group of PDP leaders in Ife Federal Constituency passed a vote of no confidence on Adewusi, Oladipo, and Ife East PDP chairman Olasunkanmi Makinde. The leaders accused them of associating with Bimbo Ajilesoro, the federal lawmaker who recently defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The communique was signed by 39 party leaders, including two serving state commissioners. Those officials were Biyi Odunlade, Commissioner for Political Affairs, and Dipo Eluwole, Commissioner for Education.

Their move created tension in the party and fueled speculations about possible cracks in the Adeleke administration. However, the government’s swift response aimed to calm fears and prevent further escalation.

PDP Leadership Intervenes

To address the crisis, Osun PDP chairman Sunday Bisi ordered party members in the constituency to desist from fueling division. He stressed that the matter would be resolved internally without jeopardizing party unity.

Party insiders confirmed that reconciliation efforts have already started. Senior leaders within the PDP are reportedly reaching out to aggrieved members to restore harmony in the constituency.

The state government commended the PDP leadership for its timely intervention. It urged all members to focus on dialogue rather than conflict. “We appeal for calm and restraint. Dialogue and peaceful engagement remain the best tools for resolving internal disagreements,” the statement read.

Officials further assured that the Adeleke administration remains focused on delivering its developmental agenda. According to them, distractions from internal disputes will not derail the state government’s programs and policies.

Outlook for the Party

Political observers note that internal wrangling is not unusual within large parties, especially when defections occur. However, the firm backing of Adewusi and Oladipo by the state government sends a signal of stability.

With unity efforts underway, analysts believe the PDP in Osun will likely overcome this setback. For now, the government remains confident that loyalty and integrity will prevail over division.
