Social media commentator and self-styled financial expert, GehGeh, has criticised Afrobeats star Wizkid for allegedly failing to acknowledge comedian and content creator Carter Efe following the success of his 2023 tribute song, Machala.
Speaking in a video shared on his X page, GehGeh revisited the impact of Machala, which went viral across social media and was widely seen as a celebration of Wizkid’s brand. He described the track as the most successful fan-made tribute in Afrobeats history, arguing that it significantly amplified Wizkid’s image at the time.
GehGeh claimed Wizkid never publicly recognised the effort, a move he interpreted as more than mere pride. According to him, it reflected a reluctance to share influence and visibility with emerging talents.
He contrasted Wizkid’s alleged stance with Davido’s relationship with Carter Efe, praising Davido for openly supporting the comedian-musician. GehGeh linked Carter Efe’s growing prominence, including his rise as Africa’s leading Twitch streamer, to Davido’s appearance during one of his livestreams, which drew massive attention.
The commentator stressed that established celebrities have a responsibility to uplift others, especially when they once benefited from similar support. He referenced Wizkid’s early career, noting that Banky W provided him with a platform that helped launch his rise to fame.
GehGeh added that withholding support does not limit another person’s destiny, warning that opportunities will always come through alternative channels. “If one person refuses to be used, another will be chosen,” he said.
He also spoke about his personal contributions to upcoming creators, revealing that he has supported several young TikTok content creators with resources and encouragement to continue producing content.
