The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to intervene over alleged plans by the state government to plunge the state into crisis through misinterpretation of the recent Supreme Court judgment on local government allocations.
In a statement signed by the Osun APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and some government officials of twisting the judgment delivered by the apex court on Friday in the suit filed by the Osun State Attorney-General against the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Lawal claimed that political office holders, including the governor, the PDP chairman in the state, Sunday Bisi, and the Commissioner for Information and Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, have allegedly been misinforming the public about the outcome of the judgment.
He further alleged that the PDP and the state government were perfecting plans to unleash attacks on APC members across local government areas in the state, claiming that no fewer than five of its members were attacked and injured at Otan-Ayegbaju in Boluwaduro Local Government Area shortly after the Supreme Court ruling.
He said, “It is important to inform the Inspector-General of Police and the NSA that the leadership of the PDP working in cahoot with the state government has perfected coordinated plans to be attacking the members of our party across the local government council areas in the state.
“In order to test the water of their violent attacks, no fewer than five members of our party at Otan-Aiyegbaju in Boluwaduro Local Government Council Area of the state were attacked and grievously wounded by the PDP thugs led by one Felix Falola alias ‘Agba’ shortly after the delivery of the Supreme Court judgement that struck out the Osun State Attorney-General’s case for being incompetent and lack of jurisdiction.
“It was however, surprising that the state commissioner for information who is a lawyer was busy twisting the Supreme Court judgement thereby misinforming the people and inciting unrest and violence through a radio programme monitored in Osogbo, the state capital, today.
“It is important for the misinformed members of the public to note that on Friday, the 5th Day of December, 2025, the Supreme Court of Nigeria gave judgement in the case of Attorney-General of Osun State v. Attorney-General of the Federation in the suit number SC/CV/379/2025.
“We, as a party, are cautioning Governor Adeleke, a supposed chief security officer of Osun State, to desist from any actions and inactions capable of disturbing the public peace in any part of the state.
“We are imploring our members and supporters to continue to imbibe the principles of the rule of law which have carried us this far in our political journey to instil sanity into the local government administration in the state.”
Meanwhile, former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has rejected the report of the state Governorship Election Screening Committee, which disqualified him and six others last Friday even as he urged the APC to thread softly or risk losing the August 2026 governorship election.
Seven, out of nine aspirants, including Omisore, a former Senator and deputy governor, were disqualified by the APC screening committee, citing failure to meet established guidelines for its action.
Omisore, spoke with journalists soon after attending and interacting with the Election Appeals Committee members on Saturday afternoon declaring that APC would be making a grave mistake by approving their disqualification without proper review and consideration of certain fundamental issues about the aspirants.
While describing his disqualification as “the greatest joke of the year,” Omisore also said “It is quite unfortunate that people have taken partisanship beyond politics.
“We are aware that the panel members have two, three reports. The one taken to the APC Secretariat was not the original report.
“As we speak today, none of us has seen the report or told why we were disqualified. But you can know from our pedigree that the disqualification wasn’t the right word or the best thing to do for us because we are germane in this thing.
“We are the veterans of the party! You can see for yourself that where you have disqualified people like us in any contest, where do we go from there.
“The party is pointing at failure and the chairman of the panel told us that Minister Gboyega Oyetola called him saying that they must disqualify all of us because he wants his lackey, his poster boy, Oyebamiji to be the flagbearer.”
Asked to provide evidence to authenticate his allegation against the minister, Omisore reiterated that the chairman of the election panel actually said so, adding, “Yes, he told us that he was under pressured. Unfortunately, we are in it together.”
“We have the same reservations about the disqualification report. So far, so good all of us will meet the appeal panel individually. But I asked them, what are the allegations, because we haven’t seen any. We haven’t been addressed officially.
“So, what are the basis of the disqualifications? You said we didn’t have nominators, five per local government. But the law says, he who alleges must prove. They should have used another method to disqualify us.”
Omisore cautioned that it would be disastrous for the APC in Osun State if the National Working Committee fails to over-rule the panel on the disqualification of the seven aspirants.
“As a person, I look forward to good things in my life. The NWC in their own wisdom must act wisely. They have the list of members of the party and we have over 13,000 members of the party who are financiers. And someone is saying that all of us aspirants are guilty of the same thing, the same system, the same way. That’s the issue and it calls for caution,” he concluded.
In another interview, Barrister Kunle Adegoke (SAN), another disqualified aspirant, said the decision cannot be allowed to stand promising that the affected aspirants will reach out to President Bola Tinubu and ask for his intervention to resolve the matter amicably in the interest of peace and the stability of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State.
“We will take our case to the President and we are hopeful that as a listening father, he will resolve the matter to the best interest of everyone,” Barr. Adegoke remarked.
In his reaction, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Bolaji Akinola, has dismissed claims by governorship aspirant Senator Iyiola Omisore alleging that Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola interfered in the APC screening process for the upcoming Osun governorship primary.
In a statement released on Sunday, Akinola described Omisore’s accusations as “baseless, misleading, and totally false,” stressing that the Minister had no involvement whatsoever in the decisions of the Screening Committee or the Screening Appeal Panel ahead of the December 13 primary.
According to Akinola, the committees responsible for screening aspirants are independent bodies recognised and empowered by the APC Constitution to operate without external influence.
“Dr. Oyetola did not, and could not have meddled in the screening exercise or in the affairs of the Screening Committee and the Screening Appeal Panel,” he said. “Any suggestion of undue influence is wrong, unfair, and completely unfounded.”
He noted that Dr. Oyetola’s long-standing adherence to fairness, transparency, and respect for party rules remains consistent, adding that the former Osun governor would “never interfere in a process where he has no statutory role.”
Akinola urged aspirants with concerns to follow the party’s official channels for complaints rather than resort to unsubstantiated allegations.
He reaffirmed the Minister’s unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of the APC, calling on stakeholders to prioritise the party’s stability and the interests of the people of Osun State.
