Manchester United enjoy a rare free week with no European or Carabao Cup fixtures, giving manager Ruben Amorim time to prepare for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brentford.
The Red Devils secured a vital victory over Chelsea in their last outing, with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro finding the net. Casemiro, however, was shown a red card just before half-time and will now miss the weekend trip.
Despite the break in fixtures, several developments are making headlines around Old Trafford.
Maguire Facing Premier League Scrutiny
Harry Maguire may face a Premier League investigation after breaching the multiball protocol during the Chelsea match.
Footage shows the defender kicking a spare ball towards the crowd after his substitution.
According to league rules, players, substitutes, or staff must not interfere with the multiball system to prevent any unfair advantage. Failure to comply can result in regulatory action.
It is unclear whether the footage has been referred to league officials.
Rio Ferdinand’s Advice to Sesko
Rio Ferdinand has urged striker Benjamin Sesko to demand better service from his teammates, even suggesting he follow Ruud van Nistelrooy’s example of walking off training sessions when frustrated.
Sesko, still goalless in five Premier League appearances, had just six touches against Chelsea. Ferdinand stressed that communication and decisive movement are key to improving his output.
He recalled how Van Nistelrooy once left the pitch in protest over Cristiano Ronaldo’s reluctance to deliver early crosses. Ferdinand believes Sesko must take a similar stand to sharpen United’s attacking edge.
Rashford’s Barcelona Loan Could Become Permanent
Marcus Rashford is thriving at Barcelona in both La Liga and the Champions League. Reports suggest the Spanish giants want to turn his loan spell into a permanent transfer.
United currently value the forward at £35 million, but Barcelona hope to negotiate a deal closer to £26m. With no recall clause in place, Rashford will remain in Spain for the rest of the 2025/26 season.
Although Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reluctant to lose Rashford for less than his market value, the England international appears settled in Spain and does not see a future back at Old Trafford.
Injury and Suspension Updates
Matheus Cunha made his return from injury against Chelsea, replacing Noussair Mazraoui in the second half.
Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot is back in training after recovering from a muscle injury and could feature against Brentford.
Lisandro Martinez continues to recover from knee surgery and is working on regaining full fitness. Although a return date is not confirmed, he is expected to rejoin the squad soon.
Casemiro remains unavailable due to suspension but should return for United’s clash with Sunderland early next month.
