His Majesty, Ògíamè Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, on Wednesday led a colourful regatta to Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestral homeland of the Iwere people. The event formed part of activities marking his 4th Coronation Anniversary.
The royal red boat sailed at the front, followed by a fleet of vessels decorated with bright colours and traditional symbols. Each boat represented families, communities, and cultural groups. Together, they created a striking display of unity and pride in the Itsekiri heritage.
Moreover, the regatta was more than a visual celebration. It reaffirmed the sovereignty of the Warri throne and reflected the resilience of the Itsekiri people. Thus, it pointed to a future of unity and progress under the reign of Ògíamè Atuwatse III.
On arrival, at Ode-Itsekiri, also called Big Warri, the ceremony continued with homage-paying. Dignitaries, chiefs, and subjects gathered to honour the ancestors and show respect to the revered throne.
