Dr. Emeka Kalu, President of the ECK Foundation, has declared his support for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential bid, describing the former Vice President as the most capable leader to steer Nigeria out of its current economic and security crisis.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Dr. Kalu highlighted Atiku’s wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to national development as key qualities that position him as a formidable contender capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

He argued that supporting Atiku would be a strategic move for the Igbo people, potentially laying the groundwork for future leadership opportunities, including a potential presidency for Mr. Peter Obi. According to him, this alignment could strengthen the Igbo voice in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Dr. Kalu also underscored Atiku’s track record during his tenure as Vice President, citing his role in advancing economic liberalisation, boosting trade, and driving job creation. He asserted that Atiku’s leadership vision is critical to reviving Nigeria’s struggling economy.

“Atiku has the political maturity to build bridges across Nigeria’s diverse regions. His national appeal transcends ethnic and political divides, making him a unifying figure at a time the country desperately needs healing,” Kalu stated.

He further noted that an Atiku presidency would foster significant progress in investment, infrastructure, and national security, key pillars needed to restore economic growth and national stability.

Describing Atiku as a detribalised Nigerian, Dr. Kalu lamented the persistent ethnic tensions affecting the country’s political harmony, and praised the former VP’s ability to unite citizens across backgrounds.

Additionally, he stressed the need for unity among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 election, warning that any coalition lacking a common vision would likely fail.

Kalu concluded by urging Nigerians to support Atiku’s candidacy, emphasizing the need for capable, trustworthy, and selfless leadership to restore the nation’s economic and political integrity.
